My Brother, the Rock Star

 High school rocker
Have you ever been to an Eddie Money concert? When you're driving in your car, and the song "Baby Hold On To Me" comes on the radio, do you crank it up and sing along? Oh, and the song "Shakin'"- you say to yourself, 'who on earth is that DRUMMER??!!' Well, let me tell you who that guy is banging on the drums. He's none other than (drum roll, please)...my brother!
Glenn's been the drummer for the Eddie Money band for over twenty years. For as long as I can remember, my brother has been pounding on the drums, thrashing on the cymbals, making all kinds of noise. When we were barely teenagers, he had the whole basement to himself to rock out. When he wasn't practicing on his drum kit, he was blaring Jimi Hendricks records, or Cream. And, I don't know HOW MANY TIMES I heard the song,
G-L-O-R-I-A  Gloria, play over and over and over again!
You could say my brother became a rock star at the age of...twelve. They call them garage bands. For a bunch of kids mimicking the Stones, they were pretty good! They'd play the local Grange Hall and groups of rock n' roll starved teens from the area would show up.
New bands formed, better musicians discovered, this went on througout high school.  After graduation, Glenn packed up his drums and records and moved to L.A.
Being a very focused and cunning person, exuding talent, there was no lack of work for this drummer. He had a gig every night.
His taste in music is versatile, being exposed to so many different genres working in Southern Ca. He played Latin music, funk, folk, reggae, jazz and ska. Before he worked with Eddie Money, Glenn was in the popular ska band, The Untouchables. Very hip and dynamic group, touring England and setting the music world on fire. The album, Wild Child. If you've not heard these songs, do yourself a favor and find a way to listen to this music. I guarantee it will make you happy and feel like dancing! Nothing wrong with that, now, is there?
Glenn's bio is a mile long. You can read about all the first rate musicians he's performed and toured with by going to the Eddie Money website, click The Band. Of course, you can also visit his website, aptly named, glennsymmonds.com.
Not only is he the best drummer on the planet, he's an excellent guitar player and songwriter. His latest CD, Poets, Trains and Troubadours, is a mixture of covers and originals. Listen, and you will hear a style all his own. A little bit rock, folk, rhythm and blues, (and a little bit o' motown in his soul). Glenn's even been the opening act before Eddie Money comes on stage. He gets to show off his talent  playing acoustic guitar, singing songs from his album, like "Hey There Delilah", "Jump In Let's Go", and the crowd loves singing and swaying along to the Cat Stevens song, "Wild World".
It's summer, and that means outdoor concerts. The Eddie Money band has a busy schedule. They play shows in NY, then fly to Montana the next day, then it's off to California. Shows in Santa Cruz, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Juan Capistrano. Next thing you know, they're boarding a plane for Denver, Minneapolis and Nashville. It goes on an on. And ya know what? Every single performance is like their very first one, or their last one. What I mean is, these guys give it their all. It's a class act. You can tell they love what they do and are true showmen. You will see all the band members are happy to be performing for you, the audience. The songs, all hits, are feel-good songs, and Eddie makes everyone who paid to hear them, feel like they're part of his family.
Check out the Tour schedule. I bet there will be an Eddie Money concert coming to a town near you!
Glenn was born to play music. He had no choice. That's who he is, and there was just no question about it. He can pick up any instrument and play it. He's got a house full of musical instruments. Bongos, congas, mandolins and banjos. Numerous guitars, electric and acoustic. He's got tambourines, maracas, washboards and kazoos.
He lives to play and create music. But, there is one thing that Glenn loves more than anything in this world, and that's being a father to his son, Marley. Yes, you guessed it. He's named after Bob Marley. That kid plays more than one instrument, as well. He first chose to play the Sax. Eddie Money gave him one of his own. He's great at it. I hear he's playing bass guitar these days, too. Marley Kane is adorable, and smarter than the average bear, and has a sweet soul. An animal lover like his auntie, we have a blast in Yellowstone, scouting out grizzlies, bison, wolves and owls.
I can just imagine what it's like when he and his dad spend time at home. I bet it's one big jam session, with alot of love and laughter thrown in.
     Marley sometimes makes special appearances on stage

Glenn's latest release :: CharlieSheen ::

Glenn's latest release titled:: Charlie Sheen:: Listen closely to his guitar and lyrics. The song encompasses the strange and pathetic antics of Charlie Sheen. This amazing song is available through itunes or amazon. It's well worth the 99 cents! You can find more of Glenn's music and videos on youtube and through his website.

If it sounds like I'm promoting my bro, I'm not. I'm BRAGGING.
