Taking Our Time Along Lone Bear Road

…the joy of prairie lies in its subtlety. It is so easy—too easy—to be swept away by mountain and ocean vistas. A prairie, on the other hand, requests the favor of your closer attention. It does not divulge itself to mere passersby.

  1. Wow, woman. Beautiful photos. I see fall beginning to creep onto the prairie, spreading its rich color and light. Such a magical place, revealing her beauty to the one who hears her call. xoxo

  4. My parents are on a adventure through WY. I finally heard from them yesterday when they found a patch of service on their way back to their cabin. They couldn't help but explode with words of how beautiful it was, how it's land was, "like something out of a movie," how buffalo hold up traffic.... but yes, my mom also said... "it's desolate." That almost made me want to venture there more. To take time to just listen to what the world sounds like there- free of human soul. Something like what I imagine you heard while taking these photos.
    Beautiful.

  6. Your beautiful photos and that quote go together perfectly, Lynn. I always thought the prairie was fascinating - when you walk through it, you find so much detail you wouldn't see in a forest or more lush grasslands.

  11. oh my goodness-- all that blue and gold just lit me right up!! we have been on sunlight deprivation all week, and these photos were like straight sunshine to my soul!! thank you!
it took me an awful lot of years to fall in love with the prairies. i never lived near the wide open spaces growing up, although i have to say that i am most grateful for the places i did live and feel lucky to have called three continents home. now i find that not only do i have an appreciation for our open spaces, i have a real commitment to preserving them. i love seeing these sweeping vistas through your lens and believe that your work goes a long way towards promoting the protection of our wild places.
    xx
