No Ordinary Winter Day

Stand very still. Breathe as softly as you can. See that little flicking movement? No, not over there, straight ahead, behind the bush. Keep looking. You will see it. I promise. There. Didn't I tell you? Cool, right? Isn’t she beautiful?

From the book,The Hidden Life of Deer by Elizabeth Marshall Thomas

I spent half the day watching a pretty family of deer as they lay around in the fresh snowy woods. Flocks of geese flew above me in irregular V's while following the icy blue Platte River. A woodpecker perched quietly on the branch of a gnarled cottonwood. Together we contemplated the wonder.

    1. Here's to winter! As much I despise the cold, the snow and animals that I see, who dwell in it, is worth it!

  5. Your photos are absolutely stunning, that view of the wintry river is beautiful and what amazing shots of the deer too, they're such lovely creatures. Winter has a beauty all it's own and I so wished there could be more snowy scenes like that over here in the UK! Beautiful. - Tasha

    1. Hi Tasa!
It's pretty, when everything is blanketed with pure white snow. But, along with it comes cold, cold, cold, then the snow turns dirty, then three long months later you're begging for spring! I try to love winter. Haha!
Thank you for stopping by here today. :)

  6. I love the sound of water in the winter. The pop, creak, squeal and groan of ice, the bubbling of water finding its way, whichever way it can. And deer. Aren't they wonderful, gentle things? They always remind me to be a bit more gentle with myself.
    Enjoy that snow!

    1. Precisely!
It is only when I watch deer, that I feel more calm and quiet than before.
We can learn a lot from watching deer. :)

  7. oh, deer!! I do love those pictures! we passed two deer on one of our hikes near Estes Park and when they saw us they just ambled up the hill and out of sight. I didn't manage to get any pictures but I appreciated the quiet encounter. I always struggle with the transition from sunlight and warm weather to the cold and dark of winter, but I must say that winterscapes are growing on me. I'm glad to see you finding beauty in them, too! xoxo

  8. Even if it's brief, the encounter with deer makes one smile. You can't help it.
I struggle with the transition too. I'm still not used to it. I try so hard to love winter!
Sure, snow is pretty to look at. It brings on a different feeling.
But, I'd prefer to live in the desert! I feel better with the warmth of the sun on my skin.
    Every day. :)
