Library Perks

"Don't mark up the Library's copy, you fool! Librarians are Unprankable. They'll track you down! They have skills!"

~Charles Ogden

I rescued some unwanted books from the last Friends of the Library book sale. Some I will read, some I will give away, and some I will use for art projects.

I'm always bringing home arm loads of books from the library. I can't help it. Flipping through books that have been returned is my job. I look for pen marks, coffee stains, crumbs of food, tire tracks, dog-chewed binding, bugs, random items left inside, unspeakable bookmarks, little sticky notes that read "you look very nice today" and many, many grocery lists.

If I find you have dog-eared the pages, you will regret it.

***************

And just so you know, this is what's going on today in Wyoming :

* Winds... west to southwest winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts of 60
to 65 mph by the late morning hours.
They weren't kidding.

  2. Bedbugs?! Scary.
My mom and I used to hit all the library book sales. We bought armloads of books and loved every minute of it. Now I know there was someone like you, behind the scenes, combing every book for the crazy things people leave behind in books (or do to books.) It sounds like an interesting job!

And that wind....is it blowing some weather in?

    1. Haha! As you can see, I changed it to merely "bugs"--the bed bug discovery did happen but only an isolated incident. (Hehe) Don't want to freak you guys out!
As far as other "things" I've found in books? I'll tell you about it sometime!

  5. I'm listening to that wind buffet the yard outside tonight. for once, I will take the wind if it thaws out the ice covering our grass. the footing is positively treacherous out there! and the driveway?? yikes.
love the books! we are regulars at the library book sales as well as the discards rack in the underground garage. I cannot even begin to guess the number of books in this house. I felt so sorry for the movers when we moved to the farm! I generally have a stack in my favorite reading place that has a little of everything-- except dog-eared pages! I wasn't a librarian, but I was a teacher and I had many discussions about the care and handling of books.
heading back to CA on Friday with Jill for a holiday visit. it will be good.

    1. Another trip to "our" ocean refuge, eh? Sounds like you need it. The snow and wind and ice...Monterey is the cure! Can I go, too? (I've about had it)
Man, Abiquiu looks real nice right about now. I think I say this every single year!
I'll txt you during the holiday. Hug your dad for me.

  6. BEAR!! I love these posts of yours, it gives me new ideas for books. There is a new/used bookstore in Madison called the Fugal Muse. It is my favorite store (the second being the farm supply) and I tend to come hoe with arm loads.

    1. Mad town has all the good shops! Is the bookstore on State Street? Then, I've probably bought a book there, too. And then I'd spend an hour inside "Princess of India" ogling colorful sarongs!
That BEAR book's cover is the best. :)

  7. Tire tracks! Bed bugs! I never thought of things like that in books! Stand strong against that Wyoming wind. It's rainy and 45 degrees here - something is very wrong with the weather.

    1. Definitely something's wrong!! Montana should have piles of snow! Rain & warm temps? Well, it was 50 here yesterday...with strong winds again. Chinook.
I watched on the news of the dreadful floods in Portland and WA. It's been relentless in the PNW this year...it's all gone haywire.
Grab an umbrella and Gyp and go look for some woodland creatures! :)

  8. Books that are dog eared, coffee stained and well thumbed are books that have been read and enjoyed. Xx
