Walking Gently On The Frost

"You expected to be sad in the fall.

Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light.

But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person died for no reason.”

― Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast

  2. Great photos! Fall is my favorite season, always has been. Cooler days, sweaters, the smell of turning leaves. Geez, I miss these things. Stuck here in the southwestern desert, I do my best to escape to higher country for at least a little of the season.
    Love your blog!

    1. What a nice surprise. I'm glad you're here, Julie!
I went to see what you're up to..over there rambling 'round in the sage.
      Trade you places right now!
I don't know if you know this, but my heart has always been in the southwest.
I feel the warmth of the sun since you stopped by to say hi.
      Thanks for that! x

  4. Hellooooo!!!
I know, I'm a bit sullen for some reason. We're having a horrible fall here, I'm telling the truth. The leaves have not change much, they are still on the trees, mainly, and we had a blizzard that knocked my power out for five days! No! I'm NOT joking!
And the past few days, I've not seen the sun.
So there. That is why I'm sulking and posting sad Hemingway.
But, you've totally cheered me up, Jeansy. xoxo

  5. Aww, those beautiful frost crystals!
    And that sweet kitty!
Such a cozy time of year!!!
I was thinking of you this weekend when we climbed a mountain to camp at the lake topside. It was too foggy to see much, but as I was boiling water for my tea that night I thought of your quiet moments pouring coffee at your campsites...

  8. It looks damn cold there! lol. Okay, so today the wind blew with a north breath of coldness here finally! And it's been grey, and dark! Yuck.
I feel so bad that you were without power for days. Do you use a generator?

Your cat makes an awesome shawl! The squirrels have been extra squirrly lately! ha ha
