Between every two pine trees there is a door leading to a new way of life.
~ John Muir
There was no path
Needles had fallen from the pines, sunburnt bronze covering the forest floor
Stepping lightly
I embraced the quiet and all the creatures that I knew were there
But did not see
I told them stories, a traveler's tale
Of empty places, desolate towns and worried minds
Loneliness
The woodland animals, they do not know, they will never see
What I see
They know more than I
As they move about these woods, noses in the wind
exploring, hunting, imagination
They know their place
I sat listening; a lodgepole pine had a secret
I wasn't afraid
I'm not lonely
I'm not dispirited
Or disheartened
In nature, I am loved
I was alone in the woods
It held me.
geweldig om zo een met de natuur te zijn.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting, Bas! :)
DeleteBeautiful. The words, the photos, the forest. We're all hearing the call of the trees these days.

Yes, I think it's interesting how a few of us shared stories and images of being in or near the trees, taking solace in the woods at the very same time.
DeleteI love that connectedness.

Beautiful...I will not dust
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha!!!! Good. Because it's so unexciting. ;)

that spill of gold in the valley of those hills.
ReplyDeleteyou've captured this season so very nicely....
xO
The autumn season is always so welcoming, isn't it Bernard? Except, the leaves on the trees here are still hanging on. It's 70 degrees out. It's November!
DeleteA Chinook is blowing furiously in my town right now. Blustery warm.

That crown of golden leaves on your beautiful curly hair! C with the horse (wild?!!), your kitties, all lovely. Are you enjoying this season? We got the new snow on the peaks and have had clouds and frosts but little rain.
ReplyDeleteGoing home from Red Feather, we drove the back way through the Rawah Wilderness. Stopping to see this lone horse just standing alongside the road, we all got to know each other for a few minutes. He really took a liking to Chad. They both have this calm demeanor. They acted like long lost souls finding each other again.
DeleteIt's extremely warm here. Absolutely, I like it! BUT, with the leaves still on the trees, I'm afraid of a freak giant snowstorm coming, weighing the branches down to the breaking point...losing trees again, like two winters ago.
We need a good frost!
I'm sure your peaks with snow are gorgeous! Winter is coming. :)

Diana beat me to it-- you with the crown of golden leaves and Chad with the horse!
ReplyDeletelove seeing you living a dust-free existence in the forest where the wild things are!
I can't remember the last time I dusted...
DeleteYou are probably nodding your head, because you were HERE and you SAW all the dust bunnies! Lol. I don't care. :)

I was transported for a moment to your woods. Much needed for me, dreaming here at my desk. Love the garland of leaves in your hair, woodland creature!
ReplyDeleteYou have woods all around you there in Portlandia. Trees are so therapeutic!
DeleteAnd the most wonderful thing about spending time in the woods is there are bound to be deer. Those big eyed, big eared creatures, tip toeing around!
I've got wind. Warm Cinook wind. And tumbleweeds. And allergies from it all.
Have fun mushroom picking! :)

ReplyDeleteMe too. I don't get into them enough.
DeleteLooking forward to X country skiing in the pines this winter.
Hope you are well, dear cousin!
Sorry I've been so evasive in corresponding these days. I've been sad and don't want to lay it on anybody. Time will tell. ;)
